Grade 11 – Collaborative Math Work Through Google Docs

One of our amazing math teachers developed a math lesson on word and imported her lesson into google docs. Her aim was to have students work together in small groups to answer questions and develop their learning collaboratively and collectively. She shared the google doc with her students and each had access to the file through google docs. During the lesson, one student per group logged into google docs and as a group they developed the page. They inserted text, copy and pasted images from the TI calculator on their computers and inserted math functions. The class was visibly engaged, enthusiastic and were learning from each other. Ms. Miller also projected the developing google doc on the SMARTboard and so students were able to see the live changes being made. It was a highly collaborative and rich learning experience for the students – Ms. Miller’s idea was fabulous!
